Robin Ticciati, music director of the Glyndebourne Festival Opera, has kindly agreed to become our president. We're especially delighted at this since Robin is a former pupil of our conductor Roy Stratford. Robin began conducting aged fifteen and, while still at school and learning his craft, he conducted a number of repertoire sessions with the Woking Symphony Orchestra to the great enjoyment of us all.

In the intervening few years Robin has had a meteoric rise in his profession, amassing a wealth of experience with the Royal Scottish Chamber Orchestra (where he was principal conductor for five years), the London Symphony Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Rotterdam Philharmonic, the Philadelphia Orchestra, the Los Angeles Philharmonic and the Bamberger Symphoniker. He has also conducted opera productions at La Scala, the Salzburg Festival, the Royal Opera House and the Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Robin, who took up his position as Glyndebourne’s music director in January 2014, is only the seventh conductor to hold this position in the festival’s 77-year history. He follows such exalted names as John Pritchard, Bernard Haitink, Andrew Davis and, most recently, Vladimir Jurowski.

A violinist, pianist and percussion player by training, Robin communicates his passion for music to all and easily wins the respect of both audiences and musicians alike. The WSO is very proud to welcome him as our president.
